About

What the Password Strength Checker does

The single biggest factor is length, not complexity. A long passphrase of ordinary words beats a short string of symbol substitutions: 'correct horse battery staple' is far stronger than 'P@ssw0rd!', because attackers' dictionaries already contain every common substitution. Aim for length first.

How it works

Using the Password Strength Checker

  1. 1Type or paste the password.
  2. 2Length is assessed, which carries the most weight.
  3. 3Character variety across cases, digits and symbols is checked.
  4. 4Common patterns and dictionary words are flagged.
  5. 5A strength rating and specific improvement suggestions are shown.
