BMI Calculator
Body Mass Index is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. It is a screening figure used to sort populations into broad weight categories, and this calculator also shows the weight range that would put you in the 'normal' band for your height.

About
What the BMI Calculator does
BMI is a blunt instrument and it is worth knowing why. It takes no account of body composition, so a muscular athlete can register as overweight while someone with low muscle mass registers as normal. It also does not distinguish where fat is carried, which matters more for health risk than the total. Treat it as one rough signal, not a diagnosis.
How it works
Using the BMI Calculator
- 1Enter your weight in kilograms.
- 2Enter your height in centimetres.
- 3Height is converted to metres and squared.
- 4Weight is divided by that figure to give BMI.
- 5The result is placed in a category and the healthy range for your height is shown.
