About

What the Unit Converter does

Temperature is the odd one out. Length and weight are simple multiplications, but Celsius and Fahrenheit have different zero points, so converting requires multiplying by 9/5 and then adding 32. That offset is why 0°C is 32°F rather than 0°F.

How it works

Using the Unit Converter

  1. 1Enter the value you want to convert.
  2. 2Choose length, weight or temperature.
  3. 3Length multiplies metres by 3.28084 to give feet.
  4. 4Weight multiplies kilograms by 2.20462 to give pounds.
  5. 5Temperature multiplies Celsius by 9/5 and adds 32 to give Fahrenheit.
