About
What the Eisenhower Matrix does
The insight is that urgency and importance are constantly confused. Most people spend their days in the urgent-but-unimportant quadrant — interruptions, other people's deadlines, notifications — while the important-but-not-urgent work that actually moves things forward never gets scheduled. Quadrant two is where the value is.
How it works
Using the Eisenhower Matrix
- 1List your current tasks.
- 2For each, decide whether it is genuinely important — does it advance a real goal?
- 3Decide whether it is truly urgent, or merely feels that way.
- 4Place it in the corresponding quadrant.
- 5Act on each quadrant according to its rule: do, schedule, delegate or delete.
Use cases
What people use it for
- Triaging an overwhelming task list
- Deciding what to drop when overcommitted
- Planning a week around important work
- Identifying what could be delegated
