About

What the IP Geolocation Lookup does

Accuracy varies enormously by level. Country is usually right; city often is not. IP geolocation works by mapping address blocks to registered locations, so a result can point at an ISP's regional hub rather than the actual user, and anyone on a VPN or mobile network may appear hundreds of miles away. Treat city-level results as indicative only.

How it works

Using the IP Geolocation Lookup

  1. 1Enter an IP address, or a domain to resolve first.
  2. 2The address is looked up in geolocation and registry databases.
  3. 3Country, region and city are returned with approximate coordinates.
  4. 4The ISP and autonomous system number are identified.
  5. 5A reverse DNS lookup is performed where a PTR record exists.
