VAT Calculator
Adds VAT to a net figure or extracts it from a gross one. Both directions matter in practice: you add VAT when quoting a customer, and you remove it when reconciling a receipt that shows only the total paid.

About
What the VAT Calculator does
Removing VAT is where mistakes happen. Taking 20% off a gross price does not give the net figure — you divide by 1.2 instead. On a £120 gross total the VAT is £20, not £24, because the 20% was charged on the £100 net, not on the total.
How it works
Using the VAT Calculator
- 1Enter the amount you have.
- 2State whether it currently includes VAT or not.
- 3Enter the VAT rate — 20% is the UK standard rate.
- 4To add VAT the net is multiplied by 1 plus the rate.
- 5To remove it the gross is divided by 1 plus the rate, and the difference is the VAT.
