What the Wavelength to Colour Converter does

The conversion is inherently approximate. Screens produce colour by mixing three primaries, whereas a single wavelength is pure monochromatic light. Many spectral colours, particularly in the deep violet and saturated green regions, simply cannot be reproduced exactly on an RGB display.
